In 1981, thanks to the efforts made by the former director of the Institute of Legal Research of UNAM, Dr. Jorge Carpizo, it was possible to receive a donation, the private library of his teacher Dr. Mario de la Cueva. Within the set of books and magazines, works of incalculable value, legal, bibliographic and historical, vrg. History Fiorentine, by Niccolo Machiavelli printed in 1551 or the Encyclopedie ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, arts et des métiers, par une société de gens de lettres, printed in Paris in 1751 by M. Diderot.

The integration of the Reserved Fund has been done with the books of the different donations received by the “Dr. Jorge Carpizo ”, whose characteristics of antiquity, printing, editing, binding, typography, among others, deserve to be deposited in this collection.

On July 30, 1986, with the inauguration of the new facilities, the Reserved Fund of the Library of the Institute of Legal Research was created, with 320 volumes, which has approximately 14,400, composed of books, magazines, manuscripts, documents printed between the sixteenth century and the second decade of the twentieth century.

In 2007, a heated chamber with adequate temperature and humidity was built to protect and protect the most important materials in this collection.
