Tania Groppi


Tania Groppi is a full Professor of Public Law in the Faculty of Economics of the University of Siena, where she is also Director of the PhD Program in Comparative Public Law.

She is a former legal advisor to Italian Constitutional Court (1993-2004). She is a member of the scientific committee of ISAP (Institute for the Science of Public Administration); Institute of Federalism (EURAC); of the Executive Committee of the Research Centre for European and Comparative Public Law (DIPEC); of the journals “Comparative and European Public law” and “Amministrare”. She is editor of the column on constitutional justice of the weekly “Law and Justice” and correspondent from Italy of the journal I-CON. She spent study and research periods in Spain (Centro de Estudios constitucionales, Madrid, Universidad autonoma, Madrid, Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona), France (Groupe de récherche en justice constitutionnelle de Aix- en-Provence, Université de Bordeaux, Paris I), Canada (University of Toronto, York University, Université de Montreal, Alberta University), Israel (Hebrew University, Jerusalem), Czech Republic (Carlov University, Prague), Scotland (Edinburgh), England (University College, London; SOAS, London).

She lectured in Universities or Constitutional Courts in Portugal, France, Spain, Greece, Israel, Canada, Chile, Perù, Mexico, Andorra, Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Thailand. Her main research topics are constitutional justice, federalism, local government, and constitution building.
